Birdathon
What is a Birdathon?
Similar to a walkathon, a Birdathon is Audubon's largest annual fund raising event and the world's biggest bird-watching competition! Every year, thousands of people nationwide join in to count birds, have fun, and raise vital funds for Audubon’s mission of environmental conservation, education, and advocacy. People count birds and collect pledges from sponsors based on the number of species they see in one day.
Our Birdathon is our annual fundraiser for Chapter projects as well as support our mission to educate individuals and the general public, to enjoy and promote birding, to support ornithology, and to be an advocate for wild areas and environmental issues.
Donations can be made as a flat rate or based on the number of species recorded. This collective effort may find over 100 species so please budget accordingly. Additional donations for chapter activities are always welcome. Be sure to designate your donation as ‘Birdathon.’
Those of you who would like to participate with the field work are invited to:
Gather pledges from friends, relatives and others,
Take to the field according to our plans for Saturday.
Following the Birdathon:
Each leader is to share the eBird lists for the day with the Loess Hills Audubon eBird account. Every participant will be notified all as to the total species after all lists are received.
Each participant/team is requested to collect all their pledged donations and contact me regarding the submission of the collected funds.
Most importantly, the Chapter thanks all of you who have donated to Chapter projects and to those of you who considered such.
