Loess Hills Audubon will return to its “roots” for our June outing by joining up with the Loess Hills Prairie Seminar near Turin, IA for bird hikes and other activities. This multidisciplined weekend seminar has been held since 1977 to celebrate the biologic uniqueness of the Loess Hills. Bird hikes and auto birding will be led by Ed, Mark and Lee Brogie as has been the practice since the early days of the Seminar. These and other sessions will be available to us this day.
Expected birds include both Yellow and Black-billed Cuckoos, Whip-poor-wills, Bell’s and Yellow-throated Vireos, Scarlet and Summer Tanagers, Great-crested Flycatchers, Indigo Buntings, American Redstarts, Ovenbirds and perhaps Northern Parula and Kentucky Warblers and Louisiana Waterthrushes. Also, learn how the Loess Hills Audubon Chapter owes its beginnings to Seminar attendees in the early 1980’s.
Gather at the Singing Hills Walmart parking lot (NW corner) at 7:00 AM to join the outing. A car caravan, with appropriate car-pooling, will proceed to the Loess Hills Prairie Seminar Campground. Please pack a lunch, so you may stay for afternoon sessions if you desire. (Since our numbers are unknown and registration and meal reservations have closed, we will provide our own lunches). Attendees will be free to leave at their own discretion and as their schedule demands.
All LHAS outings are open to the public and offer an inviting way to begin birding and meet others with similar interests.
