Join us as we count birds for the 26th annual Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC). This citizen science project, organized by the National Audubon Society, The Cornell Lab and Birds Canada, gathers bird occurrence data much like the Christmas Bird Count for researchers across the continent.
On Saturday, February 18, 2023 Loess Hills Audubon teams will be deployed around the area much as they are for our Christmas Bird Counts. Teams will include feeder watchers situated in warm interiors, hikers venturing further afield and others traveling by car and birding roadsides. Further details and sign up sheets will be available at our general meeting on Thursday, February 2. Consider what area you would like to bird on that date and whom you would like to bird with and call me with your proposal. Likewise, give me a call If you are looking for a team or territory. Assignments to teams and territories will be finalized during the week before the 18th.
Those unable to join us on this day are urged to participate in the GBBC on this date or anytime during the Feb. 17-20 count period. Data may be submitted through the eBird mobile app or at the eBird website. For more details search for ‘Great Backyard Bird Count’ online.
All LHAS outings are open to the public and offer an inviting way to begin birding and meet others with similar interests.
